Whatcha Say: Diablo Cody

“What I was really basing it (‘Jennifer’s Body’, the movie) on was myself because I was going through this transition in my own life. I really am, in real life, if we’re gonna use ‘Jennifer’s Body’ characters as a metaphor, I’m a Needy (Anita Lesnicki played by Amanda Seyfried). I am a bookish, insecure, cowardly person.  And, my real name is Brooke. And, I had created this Diablo Cody personae to survive and to get attention which I desperately needed at that time in my life cause nobody ever listened to me. And then suddenly, when I changed my name and started doing uncharacteristic things, suddenly, for the very first time in my life, people were interested.”

“I’ve never experienced fame on your level (Megan Fox), nothing even remotely close. But, I was suddenly a public figure which is unusual for a writer and I was chasing the dragon in a way. When you get used to that level of attention, and you want more of it, even though you know it’s toxic and you know it’s not really who you are.”

UPDATE Dec 30th: I can absolutely relate to Diablo Cody speaking on ‘snapping’ or reaching a breaking point wherein you need to be heard and the only way to do so is to cause a ruckus. It’s not really a need for attention, it’s a need to contribute to society and leave a mark like anyone has the right to do. I have felt that I had a crucial perspective in the arts and the only way to get my ideas across to people was to be LOUD and outside myself. I was villainized and criminalized for it while making needed waves in the arts and beyond. I now feel comfortable using my modest platform to share my feelings and thoughts and I’ll let people come to me instead.

Have a Pleasant Day
