Nida Bangash in Conversation with Vicki Meek

This past weekend, I attended the artist talk and closing reception for Nida Bangash's The History House at Talley Dunn Gallery in Dallas, TX. Nida was in conversation with legendary artist and community leader Vicki Meek about her work at large, the current exhibition, and her experiences as an Iranian-Pakistani. There were so many amazing people and words spoken. I wish I had taken notes, but some moments are best lived as they happen. Posh gallery events are something I always tried to avoid, but this talk was warm and engaging. This particular installation was performance art documented digitally in video and photography. It was born from the frustration and rigidity of institutional structure while Nida was attending SMU as a graduate collegiate. She handled her concerns through a creative and active outlet which is something I greatly admired. Nida also acknowledged her childhood drawings and memories as part of her body of work as a practicing artist. This resonated with me as I am constantly exploring my childhood memories and drawings.

Have a Pleasant Day
