Working While Black at The Walters Art Museum
I now have a Medium.com page! For folks already using that platform to create and consume content, this provides a more streamlined way to see my work. I will be writing personal opinion pieces on my time in the arts. Sharing these tragic and surreal stories will help me clear some mental space for new memories and peaceful nights sleep. My first personal narrative is remembering when I ‘interned’ for a curator in 2015 in Baltimore just after the Freddie Gray protests.
100 followers on Medium.com means I can be paid for my writing. For years, I have shared my perspective of diversity, racism, sexism, and cement ceilings in fragments or rants on platforms like academia.edu, linkedin, or instagram. I would see the statistics raise by the hundreds as curators, journalists, pr firms, and marketing executives read my cries for help with popcorn in their laps. All the while, I was not being compensated for my time or words. I have watched journalists make a career ‘exposing’ the dirt of the art world while I was living thru it in real time. I am now sharing my perspective and memories in an organized fashion that will hopefully gain me the compensation I deserve.
I hope to see you on Medium.com/@pleasant.folk
Have a pleasant day.
