Whatcha Say: As Told By Kenya
Because if you're truly different, fair enough, I allow change. That is something. That's my biggest thing. I am so proud of myself. That happened in 2019. I allow people to grow, I allow for context, I allow for people to be in one space seven years ago and not in the same space now. One hundred percent. But, my thing is these people haven't grown. They figured out what's profitable.
-Kenya Wilson, Why are Y’all so Mean to Blue Ivy, 2020
Kenya Wilson is a 20-something law student in Atlanta and the epitome of young Black excellence. Her YouTube channel, As Told by Kenya, is filled with poignant commentary on internet culture and pop culture. Along with confronting society’s negative bias towards Black beauty, Kenya speaks about the power of rebranding in the Blue Ivy episode. She applauds organic personal growth over time while critiquing performative switching to keep up with profitable trends or movements.

That seems like the key ingredient because it signals the transition. Otherwise, it is hard to keep up with (aka chase) people who use this tactic to run from the consequences of their words and actions.
