105 years old Saalumarada Thimmakka and her late husband, Sri Bikkala Chikkayya, began planting trees when they were unable to have children after twenty five years of marriage. Over 300 trees have been planted since! Along the road in the state of Karnataka in India, the couple began planting trees from their home village Hulikal to Kudur. Despite working all day as farmers, they planted trees and thorny bushes to protect them from animals. Transporting water to nurture the trees was also a huge undertaking.

There are other tree planters of note like the citizens of Ethiopia, led by the Prime Minister, who planted over 350,000,000 trees in 2019! Brazilian Sebastião Salgado replanted 4,000,000 on his land and the land of relatives.
